Don't Anticipate, Participate

At camp when I was younger they encouraged us to take off our watches (before everyone had cell phone on them) and replace it with a bracelet that said "God's Time". The leader said "don't anticipate, participate". In other words, instead of worrying about when you needed to be where or about what was happening next we could actively ENGAGE in what was happening. It changed from us having a schedule happen TO us to us EXPERIENCING a weekend. "Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy." 1 Corinthians 14:1 Why prophecy? Why, of all spiritual gifts, are we to most eagerly desire prophecy? Prophecy literally is 1) hearing what God says, 2) acting based on what He was, and 3) speaking what He has said to others for their encouragement and building up. From Elijah to John the Baptist, those who use prophecy consistently wield a ground-taking force for the kingdom. We have all, in essence, been given super powers. Our words and actions literally change the future. We change it by speaking about and acting on what we believe is true. We issue prophecies. The question is do OUR prophecies line up with what God is telling us? Are we speaking life or death? Hope or discouragement? Love or judgment? By what we speak, we stop anticipating what will happen from a place of worry. We no longer are the victim of circumstance, but we are the ally of a God who is VICTORIOUS. We PARTICIPATE and ENGAGE with Him by speaking His will and acting accordingly and bringing the unseen into the seen. "By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible." Hebrews 11:3 Did you catch that? God formed what we see by what was not seen by commanding it! God SPOKE things into existence. And He invites us to be part of that process even today. By speaking life into the hopeless we can turn a life around. By speaking turnaround to a situation that looks beyond redemption, we work modern-day miracles. When we LISTEN to what the Father says and DO what we see Him doing, we become partners in His ministry just like Jesus. "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does." John 5:19 Speak. Act. Use your superpowers! Participate with God in creating what is seen from the unseen.
